{"id":173,"date":"2024-02-10T13:32:38","date_gmt":"2024-02-10T13:32:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/e-muse.it\/blog\/?p=173"},"modified":"2024-02-10T13:32:39","modified_gmt":"2024-02-10T13:32:39","slug":"apple-vision-pro-coverage-roundup","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/e-muse.it\/blog\/2024\/02\/10\/apple-vision-pro-coverage-roundup\/","title":{"rendered":"Apple Vision Pro coverage roundup"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Apple Vision Pro launch seems to have brought a lot of of interest, which is to be expected when Apple does, well, anything. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They even came up with their own marketing-infused grammar, they want people to say Apple Vision Pro, never <strong>the<\/strong> Apple Vision Pro.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Some of the discourse has veered into worries about people wearing visors while driving, luckily those are just a handful of attention seekers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Technical Analysis<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">First of all, how is it built? iFixit to the rescue:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Vision Pro Teardown Part 2 - Is the Apple Vision Pro Really 4K?\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/wt22M5nWJ4Q?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It would seem that finally the screen resolution and clarity are sufficient for the &#8220;lots of virtual screens&#8221; use case. Last year Karl Guttag evaluated the angular resolution of the Apple Vision Pro as <a href=\"https:\/\/kguttag.com\/2023\/08\/05\/apple-vision-pro-part-5a-why-monitor-replacement-is-ridiculous\/\">between 35 and 40 PPD<\/a> (pixels per degree). In the above iFixit video it&#8217;s measured at 34 PPD, so that was spot on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Basically if you are at all interested in the optics side of thing, just read everything Guttag writes: <a href=\"https:\/\/kguttag.com\/tag\/apple-vision-pro\/\">https:\/\/kguttag.com\/tag\/apple-vision-pro\/<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Also check out the <a href=\"https:\/\/arstechnica.com\/gadgets\/2024\/02\/can-a-3500-headset-replace-your-tv-we-tried-vision-pro-to-find-out\/\">Ars Technica review<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On the development side, Unity support is now out of beta, but it is only available for Pro users ($1800\/year). So for most developers the choice is between the native Apple SDKs and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uploadvr.com\/webxr-vision-pro-cross-compatible-quest\/\">WebXR<\/a>. The latter enables us to develop once, and run on every device, so it is clearly superior.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There has also been some debate on Spatial Video, namely whether it is simply a stereoscopic image, or if there is some parallax magic.
